Specialty devices & pharmaceuticals
Angiotech Pharmaceuticals is a Canadian specialty medical device and pharmaceutical company focused on technologies for implantable medical devices, surgery, and targeted drug delivery. We became widely known for pioneering the combination of pharmaceuticals with medical devices — particularly through drug-coated stent technology.

Our research
Our research emphasises reducing complications associated with implanted medical devices, surgical procedures, and acute injuries by combining pharmaceuticals with innovative device designs. We develop technologies spanning interventional oncology, wound closure, ophthalmology, and the biomaterials used in medical implants.
Our most influential contribution is work on paclitaxel-coated medical devices, helping establish the concept of drug-eluting devices in cardiovascular medicine and influencing later generations of combination medical technologies.
Focus areas
Localised, device-delivered therapy that concentrates treatment where tumours are addressed.
Sutures, meshes and closure systems engineered to lower infection and healing complications.
Ocular delivery and implant technologies for sustained, precisely dosed treatment.
Polymer and coating science that governs how implants behave in living tissue.
Voices from practice
“Drug elution changed what we could promise a patient after an intervention. Angiotech's coating work sits behind that shift.”
“Fewer surgical-site complications means fewer readmissions. Combination closure technology is felt on the ward, not just in the lab.”
“The team starts from the complication rather than the compound. That discipline is why their programmes translate.”
Our remote positions are part of a strategy to build a talented, global team across the US, anchored to our Vancouver headquarters.
